Experiments are in progress to determine lattice locations of dilute solutes in compounds using synchrotron radiation from the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory.  These are being carried out in collaboration with the Pacific NorthWest Consortium Collaborative Access Team.  A tutorial introduction to the theory of XAFS can be found here and a description of some applications here (both by Bruce Ravel).
